Why do we use Toothpaste? | General Dentist | Serving Jupiter, FL

Posted on: January 27th, 2014 by CSHYUBNNAI No Comments

Ever wondered why we use toothpaste? Toothpaste helps to clean our teeth of plaque and food debris without damaging our delicate enamel. Toothpaste contains fluoride which helps to protect enamel. Some also include ingredients to reduce plaque. Toothpaste is a huge part of preventive dental care.

Toothpaste is made up of several ingredients that help to clean your teeth, such as:

  • Abrasives – helps to remove stains and plaque.
  • Detergents – this is what makes the toothpaste foam. It helps to dislodge food debris.
  • Humectants – gives the toothpaste texture and moisture.
  • Thickeners – helps the toothpaste stay on your brush and squeeze out of the tube that way it does.
  • Preservatives, Flavoring and Coloring: these give toothpaste the look, and taste it has.

In addition to your normal preventive dental care routine at home, be sure to visit Advanced Dental Group in West Palm Beach, FL for dental cleanings and checkups. Call for an appointment today at 561-689-0872. Visit the website at www.advanceddentalgrp.com.

Do I have Gum Disease? | Serving Singer Island, FL

Posted on: December 18th, 2013 by No Comments

Do you have bad breathe, sensitive teeth and bleeding gums? You may have gum disease. There are two forms of gum disease: gingivitis, an inflammation of your gums caused by plaque, and periodontitis, a more advanced version of gingivitis that results in a gap between your teeth and your gums.

Gum disease, when caught in the gingivitis stage, can be treated and, in the future, prevented. Periodontitis, on the other hand, is more difficult to treat and, due to the gap between the teeth and gums, may cause your teeth to become loose and fall out.

Untreated gum disease can lead to tooth loss. If you think you have gum disease make an appointment today with Advanced Dental Group in West Palm Beach, FL at 561-689-0872. Visit the website www.advanceddentalgroup.com.

Obtain a Perfect Smile with Dental Crowns | West Palm Beach, FL

Posted on: September 4th, 2013 by No Comments

Dental Crowns address aesthetic needs, restore tooth function, and enhance the overall health of your mouth.  In cases where teeth have large broken down fillings, a dental crown can protect and preserve the remaining natural tooth.

To enhance your smile, a metal-free, tooth-colored dental crown can also replace an older metal/porcelain dental crown.  Following root canal therapy, a dental crown is typically placed over the remaining tooth structure to preserve aesthetic and tooth function.

For more information on dental crowns or other restorative procedures, contact Advanced Dental Group and make an appointment at (561) 689-0872 or visit our website.

Teeth Whitening – Enhance Your Smile | West Palm Beach, FL

Posted on: July 8th, 2013 by No Comments

teeth-whitening-west-palm-beach-floridaTeeth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth.  The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically.  Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc.  Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Tooth whitening is not permanent.  A touch-up may be needed every several years and more often if you smoke or drink coffee, tea, or wine.

Reasons for tooth whitening:

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

What does tooth whitening involve?

This type of tooth whitening usually requires two visits.  At the first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic, trays.

At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary.  The trays are worn with special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks, depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.  It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and be encouraged to visit Advanced Dental Group regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.

To see what whitening can do for your smile, call Advanced Dental Group at (561) 689-0872 to schedule an appointment or visit our website.

Laser Dentistry | West Palm Beach, Florida

Posted on: June 11th, 2013 by No Comments

laser-dentistry

Lasers are helping to bring modern dentistry into the 21st century. Treatment of dental decay with Erbium lasers is predictable and painless in most cases for children and adults alike. Tooth preparations are ultra-conservative and in most instances the high speed

dental drill can be eliminated. The laser uses a beam of light energy to remove cavities or gum tissue with only a quiet popping sound and a gentle stream of water. Utilizing this technique, cavities are literally “washed away” with laser energized water.

Want a DELightful experience at the dentist?

The DELight Dental Laser System is a beam of pulsed light that gently removes decay without the need for the drill. Ask about DELight, the patient-friendly alternative to the drill, for your next visit.

What are the benefits of laser dentistry?

Clinical studies showed that 97% of children and adult patients did not require anesthesia. No time is lost waiting for Novocain to take effect or wear off. Your dentist can work on various quadrants of your mouth in one sitting.

Is the procedure safe?

The DELight is very safe – in fact, it is as safe or safer than a drill. Your dentist will provide a special pair of glasses to protect your eyes. Just as you don’t look directly at the sun, you should avoid looking directly at the laser beam.

How does the DELight work?

The DELight works by emitting a precise, specialized beam of light that gently targets and destroys tooth decay. Decay is softer and has a higher water content than healthy tooth structure. The laser is designed to target the decay with higher water content and leave the healthy part of the tooth.

Diagnodent – Cavity Laser Detection

A reliable, highly effective, non-invasive laser fluorescent device to detect cavities at their earliest stages, and conserve healing tooth structure.

Periodontal Disease linked to Cardiovascular Disease | West Palm Beach, FL

Posted on: May 7th, 2013 by No Comments

Current research shows a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease in some patients. Though there is not concrete evidence as of yet, health-care providers and patients should not ignore the risks gum disease contributing to heart disease.

Dentists are encouraged to communicate to their patients the association between cardiovascular disease and periodontal disease.

Patients should be getting a comprehensive periodontal evaluation from their dental professional at least once a year. This should entail a full examination of teeth and gums, overall health status and age. Patients who are diagnosed with periodontal disease should inform their health care provider to reassure better incorporation of their care.

According to Pamela McClain, DDS, president of the American Academy of Periodontology , “There is no compelling evidence to support that treating periodontal disease will reduce cardiovascular disease at this time,” McClain said, “but we do know that periodontal care will improve your oral health status, reduce systemic inflammation and might be good for your heart as well.”

Schedule your next dental check up today, don’t wait until it’s too late. Contact Advanced Dental Group for an appointment and information on your periodontal risk, at (561) 689-0872 or visit our website.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness month | West Palm Beach, FL

Posted on: April 9th, 2013 by No Comments

Oral Cancer Screening

April is Oral Cancer Awareness month and Advanced Dental Group knows that most people are not aware of the statistics associated with Oral Cancer. Approximately 42,000 people in the U.S. will be newly diagnosed with Oral Cancer this year alone. And as you are well aware, your dentist is often the first line of defense against Oral Cancer, through the process of early detection and discovery.

Oral Cancer will cause over 8,000 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. Of those 42,000 newly diagnosed individuals, only slightly more than half will be alive in 5 years. (Approximately 57%) This is a number which has not significantly improved in decades. The death rate for oral cancer is higher than that of cancers which we hear about on a regular basis such as cervical cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, laryngeal cancer, cancer of the testes, and endocrine system cancers such as thyroid, or skin cancer (malignant melanoma). Although smoking and tobacco use is still a major risk factor for Oral Cancer, the fastest growing segment for Oral Cancer patients are young, healthy, non-smoking individuals due to the connection to the HPV19 virus.

If you broaden the definition of Oral Cancers to include cancer of the larynx, for which the risk factors are the same, the numbers of diagnosed cases grow to approximately 54,000 individuals and 13,500 deaths per year in the U.S. alone. Worldwide the problem is much greater, with over 640,000 new cases being found each year. Oral Cancers are part of a group of cancers frequently referred to as head and neck cancers, and of all head and neck cancers they comprise about 85% of that category. Brain cancer is a cancer category unto itself, and is not included in the head and neck cancer group.

For an Oral Cancer Screening call Advanced Dental Group at (561) 689-0872 or schedule an appointment online.
