Do experience anxiety at the first thought of a dentist visit? Does the high-pitched sound of dental tools give you goose bumps? If so, sleep dentistry may be the answer to solve your fear of the dentist. Not sure what sleep dentistry is? Sleep dentistry, also known as sedation dentistry, refers to the use of medication that helps ease the fears and anxiety patients may have before or during their scheduled dental appointment. Here at Advanced Dental Group we are dedicated to making your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Some of the options we offer to help relieve your dental anxieties include the following:
Nitrous Oxide- Nitrous oxide, also commonly referred to as laughing gas, is used to help ease anxiety. You simply breathe in the laughing gas during the procedure to help calm your nerves. There is little recovery time choosing this option, but you will need someone to drive you home after your procedure.
Oral Sedation- This is involves the patient taking a medication the night before or the day of the scheduled procedure. This is will help ensure you are relaxed during the procedure. Recovery time is bit longer with oral sedation, so take precaution and have someone drive you home after the procedure.
IV Sedation- IV sedation is administered directly into the blood stream, which results in immediate relaxation. You will be conscious but in a heighted state of relaxation, and may not be able to remember much of the procedure. Recovery time after IV sedation takes longer and will require you have a ride home after your procedure.
Don’t let your fear of the dentist stand in the way of your oral health. Dental sedation is here to help ease those fears to ensure you have a healthy, bright smile for life.
